Sunshine in my soul – on blooming

I missed a pretty huge anniversary for myself last week.  One that I’m really proud of, actually.  Two years since the last time I smoked a cigarette.  Two years.  This is a huge milestone for me because this is the point, last time, where I completely failed and gave up pretending that I had quit.  I’ve done what I once feared I’d never be able to accomplish and I’m so proud of that.  I’m a bad ass. Marking Time

Do you remember where you were eight years ago today?  What you wore?  Probably not.  If you’re a history buff, this day might hold some meaning for you (just a glance at March 29th’s Wikipedia page will give you an interesting history lesson!).  But for most of the world 29 March 2008 was an average early spring day. What am I thankful for?

Right now there is a turkey in my oven, roasting itself away.  In a little while, I’m going to get started on the dressing and the first steps for the yummy dessert we’re having.  But it’s Tuesday! I hear you say. Why yes, it is.  Sir Joshimus is at work just now, but he’ll be getting off shortly.  And Thursday he works from noon to nine, so we’ll get no time together then.  But more importantly is today.  Today is a big day.  Today is a day that I’m thankful for.  Let me tell you a story. Continue reading

Coupling and independence

Sir Joshimus and I are coming up on our ten-year anniversary – can you wrap your mind around that?  TEN YEARS.  For ten years, we’ve walked hand in hand, traveled, gotten lost, and found the most beautiful thing in my life.  I’ve learned quite a bit about myself and about my husband over the last decade, but I’ve also learned a lot about people in general and couples in particular.  There are several different ways to be a couple and Sir Joshimus and I are a very distinct type – we’re “still newly weds.” Continue reading

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today I don’t work and it seemed like just the day for me to stop by and blog.  Thanksgiving is and has been for as long as I can remember, one of my favorite holidays.  Of course, every kid loves Christmas – who wouldn’t love presents, especially not when you’re from a family as large as mine on my mom’s side?  But Thanksgiving we were more likely to play games after eating – and playing games with my family was always fun and FUNNY.  And as I got older, I got to participate more in the games, which was even more fun.  And then nine years ago Continue reading

Confession Time

As you may have noticed if you are on my personal Facebook page or you are following us on the blog page, you might have noticed my absence this past week, not just on the blog but on social networking entirely.  I even turned my phone off for several days and retreated within myself.  It was actually a pretty hard week for me, but not for the usual reasons in a woman my age.  I’m 29 years old, for the very first time, and next year I will be turning 30, not 29 again.  I’ve never been one for shorting myself of years because, by the Gods, I have earned every year like a gold star.  It’s not my age that is a problem for me, so my birthday is not a cause for eating chocolate and drink wine while listening to mopey music.  Though the eating chocolate and drinking wine and listening to music thing sounds like something I’ve done before, quite often, just for the joy of it. Happy Birthday, SCL!!

It’s so hard to believe, but as of today, I’ve been blogging for four years!  Okay, well, my blog is four years old.  I really took about a year off from blogging all together.  But still.  I’ve been trying to figure out what I would do for my birthday post, especially since it’s also Monday and I had a Musical Monday post.  Finally I figured I’d take a look back at the last four years – where I was then and where I am now.  Yes, kind of like I did at New Years.  Shuddup. ;-P Continue reading
