Cloth diapers…

So, doing a little research today, and I really like the idea of cloth diapers.  I know, there’s the whole cleaning poop off and then washing, but it’s something I can get behind.  Not only does it not leave those nasty diapers that don’t break down in the landfills – or those biodegradable ones that I’ve heard horror stories about – and it’s a hell of a lot cheaper. Since we’re planning on me being a stay at home mom, the washing won’t be a problem.  Because I’ll be damned if we don’t have a washer and dryer of our own from now on!

Now, I’ve always before shied away from the idea of cloth diapers.  The images dancing through my head being of old-fashioned flat diapers and pins, hoping that you’ve got enough layers that it doesn’t soak through too quickly.  But now, they have moderned up (and why not?) and they have some really neat types that all come with a water-proof outer layer.  And there are even those that grow with your baby.  And, of course, being as they are to be used repeatedly, they come in great colors – and some in cute patterns!  From what I’ve seen, we’re looking at bumGenius when our time comes.

If you’re interested, I spent most of my day looking and it looks like your best bet is CottonBabies.com.  BumGenius is created and manufactured by Cotton Babies, and going to the source is usually the best way to buy something like this.  Of course, if you’d rather be able to go into a store and buy them, check on BumGenius.com for their list of distributors.  I definitely am looking forward to when we have our own little oogies that we can try these on!
